To insure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of the data generated by CMM programs developed and maintained for the purpose of configuration verification of product manufactured to meet customer requirements.

SPECIAL WORK CONDITIONS AND AMERICANS WITH DISABILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, stoop, crouch, and stretch for prolonged periods
  • Lifting up to 50 lb. without assistance and over 50 lb. with assistance
  • Constant exposure to general shop conditions, including machine noise and metal dust
  • Constant repetitive use of hands, wrists and arms

 

MAJOR ACTIVITIES PERFORMED

  • Perform a variety of duties to operate Coordinate Measuring equipment to measure dimensions of components to specified requirement
  • Install and run CMM programs to support production operations. Draw sketches using Computer Aided Design (CAD) program and/or CATIA
  • As conditions require, perform all requirements of a Level II QA Inspector

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review manufacturing planning, engineering drawings, and digital models (when available) to determine proper dimensions and tolerance specifications for specific part/tool to be measured
  • Start equipment and select program from available listings, matching part/tool identification with computer program. Select proper size and length for ruby-tipped probe. Perform set up operations. Calibrate probe to sphere regularly during the course of the day
  • Position and level part on surface plate of measuring equipment taking care not to damage part or machine. Make origin measurements as required. Activate digital readout equipment and record specified measurements
  • Repeat process, moving probe to cover all areas for required measurements following sequence of computer program. Print measurements and compare to specified dimensions and tolerances, noting discrepancies
  • Perform manual dimensional checks as needed to verify questionable results.  Document all non-conforming conditions in accordance with established procedures
  • Perform general maintenance duties as required, such as stoning the surface plate and cleaning the machines. Report any problems with equipment, software or materials to lead or immediate supervisor as soon as issue is identified
  • Assist in the resolution of CMM problems within limited time constraints when requested
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

  • Maintain good housekeeping practices on machines and in work area
  • Comply with all company and safety rules and regulations. Wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Follow corporate policies and procedures as well as department goals and objectives. Maintain frequent interaction with vendors on new machinery and assist with set up as needed
  • Actively participate in cross-training, cost savings and team activities to improve processes
  • Maintain appropriate tact and diplomacy when interacting with co-workers, team members and supervisors
